Alden Morales and Luke Friedl, both making their high school debuts, secured the top two spots in the boys small school freshman 1.83-mile race at the Fastback Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Morales prevailed in 9:50.6 and Friedl clocked 9:54.5 for JSerra, which had Cole Carlson finish fourth in 10:22.3, Jack Burnett take eighth in 10:38.7 and Will Rice grab 21st in 11:42.1 to help the Lions win the freshman boys title with 26 points. The course consisted of two Valley loops, running up Switchbacks, then down National Guard Alley, followed by a right turn up the airstrip and another right turn into the gauntlet.
